Coffee Log
On the first day of using my new Timemore C2 Max grinder I decided to start taking my coffee more seriously. I created this file wit the intention of keeping track of my coffee making process.
I decided to start with Aeropress and play with it until I figure out what works best. I thought that Aeropress would be the best choice to start since that is the coffee I drink most often.
I got the bag of Sumatra beans (which I am also familiar with) to keep it constant.
For the first try I adjusted Timemore to 15 clicks and used 12 grams of coffee with 180ml of 90 degree water. Coffee came out simply fantastic. Sumatra beans are very dark roast and very heavy flavour which I enjoy a lot and with this process there was so much flavor and strong aftertaste. However, I did not have decent coffee for a month since I’ve been on holidays, then I was waiting for new grinder and I am thinking it might be possible that I forgot how good coffee should taste.
So for the first day here is the recipe:
Date | Type | grams | temp | Beans | Grind | I like it | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
30 April | Aeropress | 12gr | 90 C | Sumatra | 15 clicks | 5 / 5 | It’s been too long since I had nice coffee |
Then I went and purchased Melitta dripper and 40 filter papers! And now I am very excited to try it and see how much difference there is betwen that method and the Aeropress.
Still I have been using AeroPress almost exclusively. This morning I did prepare coffee using Melitta dripper and it was nice. I am not sure how much difference there was compared to AeroPress.
Today is Saturday and I made my first cup in French press after grinding my coffee in Timemore C2. I changed the settings for five extra clicks so it sits on 20th click and used 20 grams of coffee for 250 grams of water. Coffee came out way too strong for my taste.
Now, I went back to pour over - still very dark roast Sumatra beans, 20 clicks on Timemore - 12 grams of coffee on 200 ml water and it came out much more pleasant. It is still bitter and heavy coffee, but that is what this one is supposed to taste, there is no harsh bitternes nor acidity.
I have been using Timemore grinder for a few weeks now and it is much nicer experience copmared to Hario Pro.
We have been to Gent, came back and now I can have my nice coffee again.
So I have bought three small plastic canisters to use for bringing coffee to work. The plan is to grind three doses of coffee at home and bring it to work every day.
